Dominic James Short passed away at 9.40 a.m. on Wednesday, 18th April, 2007 at the age of 14 after a brave fight against a rare form of cancer. In November,2006 he was admitted to Burnley General Hospital with a heart problem, and was quickly transfered to Alder Hay Childrens Hospital, Liverpool. After a couple of weeks a tumour was found on the outer wall of his heart, which turned out to be cancerous. after chemo and radio therapy his family were told the devastating news that the cancer had spread to other parts of his body and it was terminal. We were given that terrible information on 10th March. He was not told, but I think he had a good idea of what was going on. The doctors at Alder Hay said it was so rare they had never seen anything like it and did all they could. He went home shortly after to enjoy the rest of his life as well as he could. He died at home in Nelson just 5 weeks later, with his mum and me at his side.
